CHANGES IN OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH AFTER BECOMING LITHUANIA MEMBER OF EU

Lithuania's integration into EU, accepted and implemented requirements of EU law acts, stimulated quicker liberalization and privatization of Lithuania's economy and basic structural reforms. Lithuania's expenses of preparation to join EU and membership in EU are expenses of modern state that would be purposeful to name them as investments. Such investments are necessary to estimate a stable and safe state development which is a basic welfare condition. Occupational safety and health at work is one of the underlying aspects improving life quality. In this work the main requirements of EU directives in occupational safety and health corresponding to the national law acts are estimated, the number of accidents at work in the most dangerous sorts of economical activities and economic consequences are analysed. Lithuania's changes in occupational safety and health are analysed according to results of a comparison analysis. The state of occupational safety and health at work in years 2003 and 2005 is analysed more thoroughly. Methods of selection, poll, statistical – analytical and their analysis were used to achieve the objective.
