Price and Quality of Industrial Products: Some Results of an Empirical Investigation

This paper deals with two issues. Using Danish data on Western European goods, a test is presented in order to determine whether the concept of quality should be considered unidimensional as in the classical literature, or multidimensional as in the characteristics approach. The second issue is the relationship between price and (technical) quality. Previous studies have shown this relationship to be positive, but rather weak. In this paper, some doubt is thrown on the methodology of these studies. A test of the relationship between price and quality is given, using data on individual characteristics.
