Abstract

This article addresses several issues concerning initial job interviews. The author discusses the importance of making a solid impression in this stage of the interview process, noting that this is the stage to separate yourself from other applicants. The author discusses tactics that are most successful at influencing interviewers which include self-promotion and self-monitoring. The author notes that research has shown that the actual performance given in the interview is more important than the credentials held by the individual. The author also discusses several behaviors that are considered red flags for employers.
