Industrialization under Perfect Foresight: A World Economy with a Continuum of Countries
构建了一个包含连续国家的动态贸易模型,各国时间偏好率不同,工业化是劳动力向具有外部规模经济部门逐步转移的过程。研究发现,时间偏好率低的国家会实现工业化,而自给自足政策无效。
A dynamic model of international trade with a continuum of countries is presented. The terms of trade path each country takes as given are endogenous in the model. Countries differ by the rate of time preference and have populations of overlapping generations of labor. Industrialization is modeled as the reallocation of labor to the sector with external increasing returns, the process of which is gradual due to a demographic constraint. In a perfect foresight equilibrium, countries with lower time preference industrialize, and autarky policy is not effective for industrialization. Orbits may exist for countries with positive time preference. Journal of Economic Literature Classification Numbers: D90, F10, F43, O14, O40.
