Employment elasticities and speeds of labour adjustment: The implications of different estimation methods for Malaysian commercial agriculture and forestry
研究了三种方法测量马来西亚橡胶、油棕和林业的劳动力吸收情况,发现就业产出弹性因方法而异,且各行业弹性不同,劳动力调整速度普遍较慢。
The study concerns the application of three methods to measure labour absorption in the rubber, oil palm and forest‐based industries of Malaysia. Estimates of the employment‐output elasticities show that the results are very sensitive to the method used to measure them, but each method does demonstrate that the elasticities vary among the industries, and would therefore seem to require differing employment planning prescriptions. The speeds of labour adjustment to output changes are also measured, and the various estimates suggest that this has been generally slow. Possible reasons for this employment behaviour are outlined and discussed.
