The role of political economy factors in the making of macroeconomic policies has received a great deal of attention over the past three decades. This book does an almost unique job of utilising the tools developed by this literature in an attempt to interpret the differences as well as the similarities in the macroeconomic policies of the developed democracies in the post war period. In doing that, the author also extends the existing knowledge on the interactions between the institutional structures and macroeconomic performance in general. The material presented by this book is organised around five chapters, three of which are the main analysis chapters. The first part of the book‐ apart from the introductory chapter 1‐ is devoted to fiscal issues.
