Abstract

The article refers to the book “Organizational Strategy, Structure, and Process,” by Raymond Miles and Charles Snow, and focuses on adaptability in successful companies. The adaptive cycle consists of three problems—administrative, engineering, and entrepreneurial. The discussion centers on the Japanese consumer electronics company, Sony, which was challenged by change in the 1990s that resulted from a convergence of digital technologies, consumer electronics, information technology, and media businesses. Four organizational archetypes are mentioned: reactor, defender, prospector, and analyzer.
