Abstract

The article presents a commentary on the paper “What Do Wages Buy?,” by David I. Levine. The author notes that the key result of the research was that workers don't quit their jobs if they are paid well. The study drew a cross-cultural comparison between U.S. and Japanese workers. The author points out the distinction between the attitudes of the U.S. and Japanese workers studied. He stressed the need to understand the importance of culture and organizational philosophy in interpreting individual behavior.
