This article examines the influence of citation impact on scholarship. Citation analysis allows authors to determine how often their work has been cited by others. The author responds to the previous article, which depicted the effect on journals, universities and researchers of this growing phenomenon. He generally concurs with the previous article that the increasing pressure of citation impact is distorting scholarly publishing in a way contrary to good research practices. He cites the growing need for interdisciplinary work and wonders if it can get published in this new environment.
