The article reports on research concerning firm performance in stable and uncertain environments, the role of chief executive officers (CEO) in gathering information and identifying business conditions, and innovation as a strategy in uncertain environments. Corporations in stable environments should concentrate on cost control and efficiency. The study focused on the information behavior of CEOs and found that the type of information used in environmental scanning impacts financial performance. The research was conducted by Vinay Garg of Southwest Missouri State University, Bruce Walters of Louisiana Tech University, and Richard Priem of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
