Statistical Evidence on the Diversification of Japanese Large Firms

THE purpose of this paper is to report the evidence about the diversification of large Japanese firms. The same kind of evidence has been compiled for the United States,1 United Kingdom2 and Canada.3 But evidence about diversification of Japanese firms has not been available. It may be of special interest then to study the diversification ofJapanese firms, given the popular view that the Japanese economy is dominated by a few very large, highly diversified firms.
