Abstract

In the fields of organization theory and behavior and more generally in management education and development, mainstream thought has been distinctively American. Inspired almost without exception in its most powerful institution -the modern business corporation- it evolved as distinctively ethnocentric field of inquiry. OT/OB resulted trapped within geographical, cultural, temporal, and conceptual parochialism. As a recent collection of studies attests, organization theory has not even had a close relationship with the research on the international operations of multinational corporations. Research has remained focused on the domestic, US context and paid relatively little attention to organizational phenomena that stretch across borders. Since the late 1980s a diversity of alternatives to remedy this parochialism has emerged.
