Do Board Characteristics Impact Firms' Environmental Performance?

The article reports on a study pertaining to the impact of a board's characteristics on a firm's environmental performance. The results of the study showed that governance variables played a stronger deterrent role than external stakeholders. Firms with smaller boards appeared to do a better job of monitoring managers and motivating them to comply with environmental laws than bigger boards. The implication is that larger boards act less cohesively and are less likely to get involved with strategic planning.
