The welfare costs of the CAP for developing countries under alternative policy regimes: The case of Turkey

Using a country specific multisectoral general equilibrium trade model, it is shown that EC agricultural protectionism leads to substantial welfare losses in developing countries which are net exporters of temperate zone products; and that the welfare costs of CAP significantly depend on the choice of domestic economic policies. Furthermore the results show that a country, by assigning relative importance to industry versus agriculture through implicit taxation of agriculture, does increase the welfare costs of adjusting to external shocks.
