The author focuses on how changes in the world are affecting membership to the Academy of Management. The author states that the Academy is becoming an international organization with spontaneous increases in non-U.S. membership. He comments that the world is shrinking, partly due to the development of management schools across the globe, and also the advent of the Internet which has allowed telecommunications to connect people from many diverse locales and allows for global collaboration. He states that dialectic processes are important for intellectual development and suggests that ideological differences assist in intellectual development.
