研究用效用最大化理论解释斯里兰卡稻农为何部分采用高产水稻品种,通过比较预期效用和变异系数平方最小化两种决策准则与实际土地分配,发现预期效用理论更能预测农民行为。

Abstract

The theory of utility maximization is advanced as a suitable model to explain the adoption of mixed cropping—in the sense of partial adoption of high‐yielding varieties—by rice farmers in Sri Lanka. The expected utilities of different allocations of land to the high‐yielding varieties and traditional varieties were computed and these were then compared with actual land allocation to the two varieties by farmers. The minimization of the square of the coefficient of variation was also used as another decision criterion. The comparison of the results from expected utility and minimization of the square of the coefficient of variation with actual land allocations indicated that the predictions from expected utility theory were more representative of actual behaviour than the minimization of the square of the coefficient of variation.
