EUROPEAN AND UNITED STATES REGIONAL DIFFERENTIALS: A NOTE
这篇短文比较了美国和西欧的经济异同,特别是区域维度,探讨了1992年欧洲统一市场项目若实现,对欧共体在1990年代有何启示。
One of the major objectives of the 1992 project is that of creating a large and unified market similar, in many ways, to that of the United States. Indeed, the appeal of the United States example goes be yond the creation of more open trading conditions. The United States is, after all, not only a customs union, but also a common currency area and a federal state—all things towards which many Euro peans think the EEC should be moving over the longer-mn. This brief note looks at some of the eco nomic similarities and differences between the United States and Western Europe, and in particu lar at the regional dimension, to see what lessons there may be for the EEC in the 1990s, should the unified market project become reality.
