Design and structure analysis of integrated environmental planning models

Some new tools dealing with problems of modelling environmental-economic phenomena are discussed. A satellite design is suggested to deal with the multi-disciplinary nature of the models and to distinguish between mono- and interdisciplinary relationships. The hierarchical model structure can be analysed in terms of its stimulus-response relationships by making use of a graph-theoretic approach, which provides conditions for sign solvability of the model. The approach is illustrated by an economic-recreational-environmental model for a region in the Netherlands.
