Abstract Here, the editor introduces the special issue on organizations' preparation for and response to disaster and terrorism. The topic and meta‐constructs within it are defined. The papers included in the special issue are outlined. The methodological and conceptual variety and strengths of the new empirical papers are summarized, as are some major gaps in current knowledge and paradigms that became clear from the full set of submissions to the special issue—those that were rejected, as well as those accepted. Together, the papers in this special issue set the stage for potential important future advances in the science of disaster/terrorism preparation and response by organizations.
