Abstract

The article presents a brief of current research in the area of management practice. The article discusses business planning and its relationship to business failure. The article considers the speed with which the global market moves, causing companies to forego planning and necessitating immediate action. Looking at a study from Delmar and Shane that addresses the importance of planning to new ventures and the need for immediate action, the article finds that new companies that plan are least likely to disband within 30 months. Those that do plan find themselves in a stronger position when critical decision making is necessary. The author notes that Delmar/Shane study did not consider the quality of business planning.
