The article examines how information technology (IT) professionals can solidify partnerships with internal business clients by increasing their business competence. Experts have often suggested that IT professionals should make the first move and consciously attempt to mimic the business professionals they need to work with. IT professionals have specifically been encouraged to develop basic business competencies and skills so they can relate more effectively with internal business clients. Leadership skills were found to be the most important of the interpersonal and management knowledge sub-categories, suggesting that IT professionals who take the initiative and are able to manage projects well are more inclined to establish business partnerships.
