Abstract

The article presents a commentary by Todd Averett, Director of the Learning and Development Team at Payless ShoeSource, regarding cultivating employee citizenship behavior. Averett says Payless Shoesource has strived to develop a culture that focuses on principles and values related to organizational citizenship. The company pursued a plan it called “Guiding Values.” The Values are personal accountability, risk taking and innovation, teamwork, change, and open communication. Averett says the crux of organizational citizenship is employee behavior that goes above and beyond the call of duty.
