利用西班牙1979年塞维利亚省2200户家庭数据,检验贝克尔代际禀赋传递模型,发现祖父母收入对子女质量有直接正向影响,且降低生育率,表明模型需扩展。

Abstract

Using Spanish data we estimate Beckers model of intergenerational transmission of endowments. Income elasticities are positive both in fertility and in quality regressions. Signs of coefficients in fertility equations are as predicted by the model. A lower bound of 0.17 is found for the transmission of endowments coefficient. A strong positive effect of grandparents earnings in quality equations implies that Beckers model alone cannot explain these data. The transmission of endowment mechanism is accompanied by a direct effect of grandparents income which increases quality and reduces fertility. Data are from a 1979 survey of 2200 households located primarily in the province of Seville. (EXCERPT)
