Polish agriculture in the 1970s and the prospects for the early 1980s

Poland's present food situation is very critical and no improvement is expected in the near future. The poor performance of agriculture in the second half of the 1970s, resulting from a combination of poor weather, bad agricultural policy and structural problems, contributed considerably to the generation of the present deep economic crisis. This paper aims to analyse a number of major agricultural problems and to describe the agricultural policy and its performance in the 1970s. A comparison of the efficiency of private and socialized farming is made and the agricultural prospects for the early 1980s are considered.
