In this article the author discusses his role as managing editor of the “Academy of Management Journal.” He explains how the submission process works and discusses some of obstacles that he faces on a daily basis. He notes that the bulk of his work is carried out in the virtual sphere where he converses and consults with colleagues that he has never met face-to-face. He also describes his job as a virtual traffic cop, directing authors to the correct editors and managing the flow of submissions.
