Technology Transfer and the Spillover Effect to Local Firms: Evidence from India
研究了印度本土企业是否因跨国公司技术转移而间接获益,利用1975-76至1988-89年368家企业的数据,发现溢出效应并非自动发生,而是取决于本土企业的学习与研发投入。
The article discusses research by Vinish Kathuria, who tested the spillover effect in a study examining whether domestic Indian firms have indirectly benefited from foreign direct investment because of the transfer of technology from multinational corporations (MNC) to local firms. Implications of technology transfer on productivity are looked at. The effect of MNC presence on technology spillover was examined using 14 years of data from 1975-76 to 1988-89, from 368 firms across 26 manufacturing industries. It was concluded that indirect gains or spillovers should not be assumed to be an automatic consequence of foreign firms' presence in developing economies. Kathuria suggests that spillover is most likely an outcome of the efforts of local firms to invest in learning or research and development activities.
