On the virtues of laboratory babies and student bath water: A reply to Dobbins, Lane, and Steiner
回应Dobbins等人对Gordon等人关于应用行为研究中依赖学生被试的批评,澄清实验室研究不应被放弃,并指出其混淆了实验设计与被试群体,重申更审慎的被试选择可提升研究的外部效度。
Abstract This article responds to criticism by Dobbins, Lane and Steiner (1988) of the position taken by Gordon, Slade and Schmitt (1986) on the advisability of relying upon student subjects in applied behavioural research. It rejects the view ascribed to us by our critics that laboratory research should be abandoned. Further, a serious confounding of experimental design and subject population in Dobbins et al.'s discussion is explicated. Our initial position is reiterated: more scrupulous subject selection is a means of improving the external validity of applied research.
