Abstract

Empirical studies on male‐female earnings differentials in Asian LDCs are few and far between. This study finds that differences in productive endowments account for only about 54 per cent of the monthly earnings differential in Malaysia. The major part of this difference may be attributable to a more favourable occupational distribution among males. Overall, females tend to be concentrated in subordinate occupations and appear to be paid less for similar human capital endowments.
