The Influence of Non-Pecuniary Factors on Labor Supply: The Case of Navy Enlisted Personnel
用数学公式表达非金钱因素对职业劳动力供给弹性的影响,并以海军现役人员再入伍率为例,实证发现海上任务多的技能岗位对工资变化反应更小。
This paper expresses the elasticity of labor supply to an occupation in terms of the variances and covariances of the distributions of non-pecuniary factors across the alternative occupations. We then apply our results to an analysis of reenlistment rates among Navy enlisted personnel. We argue that those Navy skills experiencing a higher incidence of sea duty will have lower pay elasticities. This prediction is confirmed empirically using probit analysis.
