An area response model for perennial plants and its application to Spanish oranges and mandarins
In this article, an area response model for perennial plants is presented. The capacity utilization and the expected profit investment theories have been jointly used to provide the theoretical framework. The net effect of plantings and removals are estimated through a single aggregate equation. The model was applied empirically to the area of 5 orange and mandarin varietal groups in Spain, namely, Satsuma, Clementine, Navel, Blood Orange and Late Orange. Results show a high consistency of signs with a priori expectations and acceptable statistical performance.
