The article discusses research pertaining to effective work group design. The research indicated that the way in which the team is designed has an important impact on work group productivity. The significance of the task, the ability to see a project through to the end, and the extent to which members participated in decisions had an important bearing on the effectiveness of a work team. Through these characteristics work teams seem to acquire a sense of personal responsibility and task ownership.
