What problems may one encounter in the cross-cultural transfer of a social technology from developed to developing countries? Using the U.S. and Latin America as examples, the authors describe the obstacles and cultural differences, as well as the similarities and facilitating factors, which must be taken into account when a cross-cultural application of organizational development is contemplated. A set of normative presciptions is provided for the aspiring international OD practitioner, as well as for the practicing manager who is considering the employment of OD techniques within his or her own Latin-based operations.
