An analysis of technical efficiency on a sample of Greek farms

Having estimated a frontier production function using cross-section data on 83 farms situated in the Peloponese, Greece, an attempt is made to measure the production performance of this group of farms, using a recently developed index of technical efficiency. The measure is computed under various assumptions on the fixity of certain inputs. It is concluded that there is considerable scope for increased efficiency of resource use i.e. the same total output could be produced with substantially less factor usage.
