This article looks at the relational foundation of research as it applies to interesting research. The purpose of the essay is to try to answer the question of how might researchers think more broadly about doing interesting research that expands, stretches, and teaches the researchers and those who are exposed to their output. The authors use their experience with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and a research paper they wrote on how the Port Authority struggles with the homelessness issue to come up with an answer. Their answer looks to the relational foundation of a research project as key to understanding how interesting and significant the project can become.
