Language is very important in comprehending a subject as complex as business policy. Unfortunately, the lack of a widely shared and understood language is a liability that business policy has yet to overcome. In this paper some proposals are made that, it is hoped, will promote a consensus on the meaning of the basic concepts and terms in the field.
