Does power determine who selects the successor?
The article explores the issues of succession and sociopolitical power in business enterprises. The author argues that sociopolitical and psychological factors influence the preference of incumbent chief executive officers (CEO) and board members for specific successor candidates. Organizational balance of power predicts demographic characteristics of successor CEO. Poor performance likely give board members a supportive principle for selecting a successor.
