Abstract

Executive Overview The article focuses on predictions concerning the job performance of scientists and engineers. It states that there is an prediction by economic analysts that the number of knowledge workers, of which engineers and scientists are a part of, will increase in the future. It comments that while scientists and engineers are knowledge workers, they have differing reactions to motivating factors. It suggests that scientists have a greater focus on professional peer groups than within the organization they are employed by, while engineers have a greater local orientation. It examines how job involvement motivates cosmopolitan knowledge workers such as scientists.
