Average setup cost inventory model: performance and implementation issues

SUMMARY Now that just-in-time (JIT) concepts have become widely accepted and programs to reduce setup costs are becoming common, production managers need guidance in order to adapt to, as well as facilitate, the implementation of JIT goals. An inventory model is presented for the situation in which setup costs are subject to learning curve effects. The performance of this model is analysed and the conditions for its implementation are discussed.
