This article discusses research that examined job stress and workloads among professional women in Sweden. The author points to research that has shown that women who have challenging or supportive jobs actually experience a greater quality of life despite being responsible for a large workload. The research suggests that these women gain an increased sense of self-worth and social connectedness and promote positive health benefits. The author notes that the findings of one study found that there were no immediate health impairments found among the women and it was suggested that this may be the result of their multiple roles as spouse, employee and mother may serve as a buffer against work related stress.
