Integrating Professional And Academic Training In Contemporary Higher Education In Ghana

The underlying causes of mismatch between professional and academic training have been analyzed with special reference to the Master of Business Administration (MBA) degrees offered in Ghana and programmes offered by the Institute of Professional Studies. The rationale and the significance of the study were to set out innovative systems for integrating academic and professional programmes aimed at developing analytical and problem solving oriented graduates. The relevance of higher education and the characteristics of a university as both academic and professional training institution are also discussed. A conceptual framework to facilitate the bridging of gap between academic programme and professional training was proposed as research to obtain data on the two approaches. The outcomes of the study will be beneficial to managers and academic staff in tertiary institutions, publishers and employers. Journal of Business Research Vol. 1 (1&2) 2007: pp. 1-6
