The Literary Gulick: A Bibliographical Appreciation

For many years Luther Gulick has been acknowledged as one of the founders of modem administrative thought. In his monumental two-volume work on The Managing of Organizations, Bertram Gross has listed the pioneers of management thought, public and private, as Frederick W. Taylor and Luther Gulick of the United States, Henri Fayol of France, Max Weber of Germany, and Lyndall Urwick of Great Britain. Among these, Gulick is the only one associated with public administration and the only one for whom there is in print neither a general bibliography nor any collection of his works.
