Contemporary critics have placed the blame for our economic decline and lagging competitiveness on the shoulders of our nation's business schools. However, criticism of business schools is not new and dates back to the early rejection of the very idea of allowing a school of commerce into a university. While the Old Criticism claimed that business schools were not academic enough, the New Critics contend that what is needed is a more professional and applied approach. Responding to both has created an identity crisis which business schools must now resolve.
