Abstract

Age, sex and place of residence are widely used by automobile insurers as classification variables for rate making purposes. Using the entire universe of Wyoming accident records for 1979, this study examines these three variables in relation to the frequency of accidents and resulting physical injury and property damage. This examination suggests that these variables are reasonably good predictors of accident frequency, and to a lesser degree, of accident severity.
