Abstract

A recent publication [3] contains the results of a survey of insurance education in Canadian universities. For at least two reasons the results of this survey are especially important to persons concerned with university insurance instruction. First, they provide an up-to-date comprehensive picture of the pattern of Canadian education in this field, including the names of institutions offering courses, detailed characteristecs of those courses, and other closely related information. They will also enable insurance teachers and administrators to make meaningful comparisons among the programs of various institutions. A second reason why the results hold special importance is that they may be compared on an aggregate basis with the results of surveys undertaken in United States by the S.S. Huebner Foundation [2]. For this purpose the Canadian survey was closely patterned after the Huebner Foundation survey in terms of scope and methodology. This report summarizes the Canadian experience and contrasts it with the U.S. insurance curricula.
