A study of prominent beliefs about participative management reveals that participation is practiced rarely in the U.S., although there is considerable interest in it. This interest isorganizationwide, but there are differences in preference for the various types of participation. Opportunities exist for improving performance by adopting participative practices, but they should be implemented selectively.
