Abstract

In a recent paper in this journal, Dubinsky and Yammarino (1) make some points concerning agents' reactions to their jobs. One factor that may have a broad impact on insurance agents' responses is the attention that they receive from their sales supervisors and managers. The purpose of this short note is to provide more evidence as regards job satisfaction of insurance agents. The major results presented here are derived from a study of life insurance agents behavior toward the future of their profession realized in the province of Quebec (Outreville and Zins (3)). Because of the deregulation process, life insurance agents are presently at the centre of discussions which will deeply influence their future. In this perspective, this study's objectives were the following: (1) to analyze the socio-demographic and professional characteristics of life insurance agents in the province of Quebec, (2) to evaluate their degree of satisfaction with respect to their profession and the relationship with their companies, and (3) to determine their perception relative to the future of the profession.
