Housing is one of the basic human needs. In recent years the prices of commodity houses rose rapidly. There is an increasing urge for immediate actions in providing shelter for medium_ and low_income families. It is important for promoting economic development and social stability. Analyzing the successful experience of Hong Kong public housing, this paper discusses its relevance to the public housing system in Mainland China, such as efficient administration, funding arrangements, and fair allocation of housing resources.
