The chief aim of the division of ecological—economic functional areas in to harmonize the relation between regional economic development and the protection of ecological environment.In is very important of the optimization of regional spatial structure and the coordinate development of regional economy.The paper analyzes the major problems existing in Guangdong's current economic regional division,suggests that guided by the five principles,drived by central cities,collaborated with ecological environment,emphasizing regional leading function,upstream collaborating with downstream,preserving administrative district of county grade borderline intact,based on the current four economic functional areas,Guangdong province can be divided into six first-grade ecological-economic functional areas,pearl river delta,coastal area of the east Guangdong,coastal area of the west Guangdong,mountainous area of northeast Guangdong,mountainous area of north Guangdong and mountainous area of northwest Guangdong,and fifteen second-grade ecological-economic functional areas.The paper further advanced policy recommendations,such as orientation of every area's functions,industries prioritized or restricted,central cities building and the protection of ecological environment.
