Evaluation of the Values of Living Environments and Its Significance

A comprehensive literature review suggests that so far the assessment of the physical aspect of living environments was emphasized but that of the values of the environments has been neglected in China.This paper argues that to facilitate the decision-makings in practice,it is truly essential to turn the research focus to the quantitative evaluation of the values of living environment.In particular,studies should be directed to the values of those environmental factors with critical policy implications.Based on the arguments,the paper reviews the theories and methods for identifying the values of living environments and elaborates the most frequently used economic evaluation methods.Then,a case study in Beijing is presented for illustrating the application of the method in policy analysis.
