The Forestry Economy in Lapland of Northern Finland and the Reference Significance to Chinese Forestry Development

The controversy between alternative uses of forests in Lapland of Northern Finland has been going on for decades. Reindeer husbandry, forestry, wood industry, nature- based and Sami culture- based tourism are nowadays the main sources of livelihood in Lapland. Utilization of the same resources for different purposes in this area has not been free of controversy. The author discussed boreal forests in sustainable use, ecological forestry, and local forestry's harmonious development with biodiversity conservation, reindeer herding, and Sami people; introduced Finnish certified environmental system, forest certification and chain-of-custody certificate, the advisory boards of co-operative planning and Mets?hallitus' s natural resource planning; expounded how the forests influence climate change, the economic wellbeing forests brought to rural areas, state owned land in Lapland in total and Finland's network of protected areas. The author also introduced reindeer herding and Sami people in Finnish Lapland, analyzing the harmonious development between which and forestry, and made some suggestions to forestry development in China in the end.
